Competition Commission Blocks Project Kangaroo

A joint bid by a consortium of BBC Worldwide, ITV and Channel 4 has been blocked in their bid to launch a video-on-demand (VoD) service by the competition Competition Commission. Their Project Kangaroo was deemed to be "too much of a threat" to competition in the small but growing VoD market. Three competing suppliers would benefit viewers more, the Commission said.This may be an advantage to footage producers, as they will have several potential emerging broadcasters interested in their wares for the VoD market, rather than one.Further information: Competition Commission blocks Project Kangaroo
