By 2015 digital movies will replace film
As it was reported, by the year 2015, standard 35 mm film used for projecting movies in cinemas will end its life and be replaced by digital technology.
The 35 mm film format that has been dominant for the past 120 years will be replaced to digital projection format in the U.S. in 2012, and globally by 2015. One can blame the hit blockbuster “Avatar” and constantly raising popularity of 3D movies for the decision of the whole industry to switch to digital.
The things started to change in 2009, after release of “Avatar”. This movie became the milestone for the movie industry. Since then digital technology started to form bedrock of the modern cinema environment with digital film technology growth for over 17 % annually. Specialists predict that by the end of 2012, on the global scale, 35 mm film cinemas will be down to 37 per cent.
